COVID-19 Cancellations: We are committed to health and safety. Read more.
We are saddened to share news that we must cancel the entirety of Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival’s 2020 Season at Sand Harbor, Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park – including our productions of Much Ado About Nothing & Mamma Mia! as well as our Showcase Series offerings. As hard as this decision was to make, sometimes the show cannot go on, especially when the health and safety of our patrons, artists, staff, and volunteers is our top priority.
We are committed to your satisfaction as a valued patron of Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival. Beginning May 18th, we will contact you via email with options and instructions to resolve your existing tickets to Much Ado About Nothing, Mamma Mia!, Queen Nation and The Rippingtons. We hope that you will consider making a tax-deductible donation of your tickets for these performances to Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival. Your donation will go a long way toward ensuring the future of the Festival during these challenging times. Whether you choose to make a donation or request a refund, we thank you in advance for your patience as we navigate the complexities of the situation and strive to provide customer service of the highest quality.
Ticketholders of Reno Philharmonic Orchestra, Reno Jazz Orchestra, and Sierra Nevada Ballet performances will be contacted directly by those organizations also beginning May 18th.
We often look to Shakespeare for inspiration in difficult times, and marvel at the timeless wisdom of his plays. Never did we dream that, 400 years later, we would face similar circumstances to those of the early 1600s. Looking back, we see our situation reflected: the periodic closure of theaters for health reasons during Shakespeare’s lifetime was often a catastrophic time for audiences and theater artists; there was no money coming in to allow theater companies to operate; and it was uncertain when it would be safe to resume normal activity. A measure of comfort is gained remembering this has happened before, and knowing theaters did re-open, when it was safe to do so, and audiences and artists did return.
As theater companies like ours around the world temporarily pause programming, we count on you, our loyal audience members, to stand by us as we endure our “intermission.” Trust that we will do everything in our power to produce another unforgettable season in 2021 when the time is right and safe for all of us to be together again on the shore of Lake Tahoe, under starry moonlit skies, for evenings of unforgettable live performance.
In the meantime, as a lodestar to guide us as we navigate through these challenges, we share a quote from our Festival’s namesake.

On behalf of all of us at Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival, we thank you for your understanding, loyalty, and continued support. We will get through this together.
